| 2009 12 Zy #50 Ruki Personal Interview
At the end of 2009, it is the Gazette who are completing their year with a Christmas concert at Tokyo Big Sight on December 24th. As the opening for 2010, their fan club tour will be starting, to which all the fans are probably looking forward to. It is astounding, that this is actually some activity for the band in a while. What will be next for this band? What are their feelings? After quite some time, we have been conducting a personal Interview with Ruki again and weve been carefully listening.
- This time we are looking towards the 50th issue of Zy magazing, but the first time the Gazette have ever been on the cover of it (in issue 27) came rather sudden an unexpected.
Ruki [That was during the release of [NIL]. Of course I remember! (laughs)]
- At that time, the band had already been playing at a big hall, and it had been in its full shape already, still, the path you have been following there after was a really fast one!
Ruki [First of all, ever since [NIL] 4 years have passed already. When thinking about that album, it feels so light and not as serious, when it comes to the mood (bitter laugh). Not as many copies have been sold of that album at that time either----Thats been the case until two years ago. Therefore, it does not seem a lot like a memory, but time has been flying ever since. So in proportion, the feelings concerning our activities have been built bit by bit.]
- Did you plan to be releasing a lot more CDs from that time?
Ruki [Not really. After all we have been going on a long tour [2007-2008] there after. Then we have been releasing [Guren] and [LEECH]. Actually, after that, we wanted to go into producing the album, however, we decided to release [DISTRESS AND COME], which had been a coupling song for [LEECH], originally, so the making of the album got postponed.]
- Well, that has been the case, but the album has become incredibly strong, and after all, this year [DIM] has been release without problems none the less and you have also been on a tour.
and this might just be my personal opinion, but it seems like you havent been on tour much this year, have you? (laughs)
Ruki [Thats certainly the case. In 2009 we really havent been on tour much, as we had said/planned before. After all we really wanted to go into song making, but somehow, we the process wasnt very forthcoming until then. (laughs)]
- Huh? But thats not very good, is it?! (laughs)
Ruki [Still, its not like we had a lot time to ourselves. (bitter laugh). We were always busy with something. However, lately we do have some free time, and it is good that we do have some time to think for ourselves.]
- Ok, since you do have some time now, are you able to get and have some input from here and there then?
Ruki [Thats certainly the case. And isnt that the time to solidify your grounds? Everyone can make up their own mind, right now
Still, it cant be said, that we are actually on vacation right now. However, we are able to get refreshed as a band, too, which seemed to be a good idea at that time.]
- So were you actually able to get refreshed?
Ruki [All of us got a little of our independence back, and that would strengthen the will to be working as a band again, wouldnt it?] - To get refreshed is certainly something we havent heard from you yet (laughs)
Ruki [Uruha suddenly started saying this. When he was meeting up with people from our sempai bands or other people
he felt like he needed to confirm, what music is to him
looking at our manager. (laughs)]
- Do you do that a lot?
Ruki [When everyone is meeting up
in the early days, we would meet often, but if we do it now a days, our staff would be influenced by that, wouldnt they? Be it with the equipment or at the studio, there is so much involved. So, wed just be disappearing unnoticed, maybe.] - Leaving empty handed, with one last bang; Id think that be really cool if you could do it now.
Ruki [Our guitarist can do it like that. I am more of the type, who likes to be in a certain mechanism. (laughs)]
- I see. (laughs) Then, when speaking of your work and duties and the input to it, how about watching movies and things like that. Especially for someone writing lyrics, it seems important to have these sorts of outside stimulations.
Ruki [When I am watching such things, its not like there is really anything. When there is a song, I am thinking about how I could do it best. However, if there is no song, I cant write lyrics either. I dont have much of an inspiration, then.]
- So are you working on new songs right now?
Ruki [I am simply playing around with making them right now. Like just into parts (bitter laugh). I really need to get this more structured, though.]
- Are you seeing these stubs of songs as what something from Gazette to be released in 2010? That would be certainly interesting.
Ruki [Hmmm
For example [DIM] is an album we wanted to make in the past, but we couldnt accomplish that with what we were working on, so we didnt have the intention to make anything completely new. Lately I am listening to the older songs of Gazette again and there are still the songs which I dont like as much as there are songs, which I like. It seems that there is something more to those. Separating these parts from each other and adding new ones to them, I would somehow like to revive them
]
- Like reconfirming the inner most part of it?
Ruki [Yes, like that. Certainly, creating something completely new is difficult. More than inventing ourselves a new, its more like bringing out our strongest parts, which will still be like something new in to listen to. I think that is also a very important thing. Also, when it comes to myself, I am doing my best when being challenged.]
- Personally speaking. (laughs)
Ruki [There are certainly times, when I wish to be suddenly put up for a challenge. And I dont mean in the sense that it comes to writing something that sells or not. It is about something within myself, that just needs to get out one way or the other!]
- Oh! If your work progresses like that, then Id think it is rather depending of timing until you can make something out of it, isnt it? But thats not what its like either, is it?
Ruki [Yes. It must be like that. I think the fluctuations between [Guren] and [Before I Decay] have been pretty strong. And we have been doing this by being aware of these circumstances. Challenging that, we havent really done anything heavy of that sort. And while there have been songs, which we could certainly think of as good songs, there were also those where we would have liked to do it differently. Keeping this in mind, I listen to our older songs and realize what the things I like are.]
- So
you dont just like songs in general?
Ruki [No. For example, among the songs we made ourselves I really hate [Cassis]
I hadnt been planning on making a ballad like that, but in the end it was our own doing, which made the song turn out like that. There after we made [Filth in the Beauty], we made [Guren]
and with that, I / we came to see what it was really like.]
- Even if you say this, there are probably a lot of fans, who really like [Cassis].
Ruki [I understand that much (bitter laugh). Therefore, distancing ourselves from something we have done and performing something live are different things with different feelings to it.]
- Thats a lot of twisting and turning, isnt it?
Ruki [Im giving my best. (laughs) This is exactly the reason why I think that time to think about these things is so important. Moreover, for me there are still albums, which I just cannot surpass just yet.]
- Oh! Now thats interesting!
Ruki [Its would be the music of zilch [a unite which was formed by hide with a couple of musicians from overseas.] Even as I listen to it now, I still think its awesome. Als SADS album [The Rose God Gave Me]. For me, this is something new inside myself. You cant really put this under any kind of classification. I think there are very few people, who can make music like this. This is the reason, why I dont want to think about genres
and make music like that, but thats difficult.]
- So you are talking about music, which is not bound to genres. I think the difficult part is probably not the making itself but rather thinking of it like that.
Ruki [Yes, it is. Therefore, once I start to think, I really come to dislike my/our earlier self just a bit. (bitter laugh) Thats also the reason, why I look at the time of Gazette until now as sort of the First Season within myself. Its ok to take a break therefore. (laughs)]
- Although it is a rather short break, isnt it?
Ruki [Even if it is short, it is really important, this time.]
- So will 2010 be the start of the Gazette Season 2 then? After all you have been announcing your FC only live tour.
Ruki [Weve always said, lets make a fan club tour, but we werent really able o do it then. But we would like out fan club to be a good thing. And I really want to play at the smaller venues again. Thats like samurai training. Its been about a year and a half since the last FC tour, and I would just like to start over again. To get out of the producing mode again.]
- After all a standing live tour is really a bare challenge you would have to face.
Ruki [Yes it is. Therefore, I will go back to the feeling of the old days again and would like to show, that we still have our fangs!]

| Interview with RUKI from the GazettEINTERVIEW - 10.11.2012 20:01Author: Martyna "Gin" Wylecial and Aude Kasperski- Spoiler:
Vocalist RUKI takes time out to answer some questions from JaME about DIVISION, the band's recent tours and thoughts about the future.
©the GazettETen years into their formation, the GazettE has spread their influence far and wide, capturing the hearts of fans in their homeland and beyond. As their latest album DIVISION makes its way into the hands of fans in Europe, JaME brings you an interview with vocalist RUKI about DIVISION, the band's recent tours and thoughts about the future.
First of all, congratulations on your tenth anniversary celebration in March. How did you feel during THE DECADE live?
RUKI: One word: thankfulness. In Japan, its not easy to maintain one band for te years. I owe my freedom of expression to our fans and staff who have supported us throughout the years
and I realized that once again at that concert.
Your very first release was titled Wakaremichi, which means parting roads. Ten years later, you release an album called DIVISION, which also evokes this idea of splitting. Is this album a way to mark a new ten-year era?
RUKI: Wow, Ive never realized the coincidence! (laughs) Well, we did not intend to correspond with our first single, but we did have a concept to roughly divide the musicality of the GazettE in two.
Could you explain to us the concept of this new album? From where did you draw your inspiration this time?
RUKI: We wanted to redefine what MADE IN JAPAN is all about. We also wanted to show that the world of the GazettE is a whole package, with album cover and other visuals and all, so we want to expand our release to many more countries.
The new album will entirely consist of new material. What possibility does it give when you dont have to include your singles on the album?
RUKI: We thought it boring to follow the album-after-single routine, which is like a manualized thing in Japan. So we released the album this way this time.
Since the beginning of your career, your works have always mixed a lot of musical influences. Are there music styles or tones you have not explored yet but want to?
RUKI: I dont see anything particular at this time, but Im interested in ethnic music.
the GazettE was formed ten years ago. Back then, what did you imagine the GazettE would be like ten years after?
RUKI: Ive never imagined myself doing a band for ten years! (laughs)
If you could travel in time and meet yourselves from the past, what would you like to say to yourselves?
RUKI: Ill probably tell myself to stay as I am.
Is there anything you would like experience again or anything you would like to change?
RUKI: Nothing in particular, but if I should mention one, I want to be more avid in everything.
It was your goal and dream to perform at the Tokyo Dome. After achieving it, what is your next dream place to perform at? Do you want to back to the Tokyo Dome?
RUKI: It would be great if we could perform again at a venue with a capacity as large as Tokyo Dome, but Tokyo Dome itself is not the nicest venue in acoustic terms. So there are things to think about.
The Tokyo Dome live was the end of the Nameless Liberty era. Have you found it? If not, will you start searching for it again?
RUKI: Theres no end to the nameless liberty itself. It is one of our eternal themes.
You will have a very busy schedule before the release of your new album, in particular with the Standing Tour 2012. What are the main differences between creating a song in the studio and creating a song when you are touring?
RUKI: During the tour, we cannot concentrate on making music, so it gets into shape slower. On the other hand, we can concentrate on it in the studio. Thats the difference.
You will start a fanclub tour titled HETERODOXY in July and then embark on a tour called GROAN OF DIPLOSOMIA in October. Can you explain to us the meaning of these tours titles which are quite unusual? What can fans expect from these tours?
RUKI: HETERODOXY stems from HERESY. We named this upcoming tour GROAN OF DIPLOSOMIA implying that all the scattered things in DIVISION and our previous works are linked together to form one creature.
The tour DIPLOSOMIA is stamped as 01. Does this mean there will be more tours coming up? Do you plan to include overseas locations on your schedule? If yes, where would you like to go?
RUKI: We do have, although a few, some additional shows as 02. As for overseas, we wish to go to every country where there are needs for the GazettE.
For the GazettE, do social networking sites help you get closer to your fans?
RUKI: While I do not feel the fans are closer or further, I feel their voices reaching us more directly. So as for myself, I feel myself close to them.
Are you involved in any creative projects beside music?
RUKI: Im not too much into anything, but I do feel like making some visual art as a hobby.
What can we wish you for the future?
RUKI: I think well be pursuing more kicks and stimulations. Look forward to our next moves, as we are heading in another direction.
Do you have a message for your fans?
RUKI: We see many people coming from Europe to Japan to see us, so we feel that its our turn to visit you now. Have your fingers crossed and thank you always for your support and messages!
JaME would like to thank the GazettE and JPU Records for making this interview possible.

| Red Motel #7 (2004) Uruhatranslated by: hakitaruntrans- Spoiler:
U: I, Uruha is incharge of the 7th entry for the Red Motel column! Lets begin!!
Last time my bro Ruki gave me an absurd and complicated topic. I somehow found away around it tho.
But I breathe a sigh of relief when Ruki gave me a decent topic to talk about this time around.
The topic is simply [The day I became a person]
This topic is for spirits who cant wait for their time to become human!
I am born and bred as a human. Up to now, Im still living my life to the fullest. So I guess the topic is about living, right?
My thoughts went deep into this
。[The day when I became human]
is when I do something that I love. In other words, when Im in a band!
I know, I know. What a boring & predictable answer. But I cant think of anything else that makes me feel more alive.
Being in a band. Its the one thing that I am most proud of.The only one thing I can puff my chest out and boast about it.
Especially on what we just achieved recently.
Gazetto just performed their 1st one-man live at Shibuya-AX! At that moment, I felt so happy to be alive!
It wasnt because the venue was big or that loots of people came to see us play.
I was happy to see the band running towards the same target, living our life to the fullest!
Before that day, I was filled with worries and had lots on my mind and kept on practicing. We gave our all for Shibuya-AX live.
Whether the live would be a success or not is not the case. Whats important is the what we do now!
Im not saying that we should be content with whatever happens but there are lots to do in the present so lets just focus on the now.
And when youve achieved your goal, you can move on to your next one! Run forward! No looking back!
And thats what [Living] is for me. Its what I must do to feel truly human.
Yes. And with the Shibuya-AX live as an example, Ive answered Rukis topic, [The day I became human]
And with that, Uruha out! ( ̄* ̄)
Oh! Next up is Aoi! Aoi, your topic is [Where in the world did Bin Laden go?].
Aoi has absolute secret meetings with Bin Laden so I hope we can get a special interview with him!
The end.

| 【HERESY&GFC 〜Q&A〜】 No.3 AOI I know this is fanclub only material, but I figured its something you should see. Question: Why wont you come to Europe? Aoi: I have a twitter and I get this question a lot in there. Its like, when you ask Why wont you come? the only way I can reply is Because we are not asked to come. When it comes to touring abroad, unlike Japan, its not something we can do just because we think we want to go. I dont know if you understand any of this but, the tour organizers abroad need to contact us and if we manage to come to terms we both agree on we can come abroad on tour and have lives there, but we dont really get people contacting us. If we had a chance Id like to come but we are not asked
I think these things are all about the right timing. The members think that wed like to come but
yeah. source: trauma-radio | |
